PERMIT PROCESS

When am I required to obtain a permit?
A permit is required for all work on a new building or the addition, demolition, relocation, alteration or replacement of an existing building, structure or mobile homes.

 

Why do I need a permit?
A permit is needed to protect you, your family, and neighbors for the effects of repairs or expansions that may violate the zoning, subdivision or flood regulation and could cause hazards to life or property.

 

How do I know if for sure whether I need a permit?
If you or not sure whether or not you need a permit, please contact Jesse Ivy at the Coahoma County Permit and Zoning Department at 662-624-3024 office or 662-645-2116 cell. If a permit is required, the permit must be issued by the Permit and Planning Department prior to beginning work.

 

How do I obtain a permit?
Pick up and complete the application for the appropriate permit at the Permit and Zoning Department (17290 Hwy 61 North – Lyon, Ms).

All construction and mobile homes shall comply with the zoning regulations.

Attachments are required for new construction and mobile homes.

Sewer Permit from Coahoma County Health Department (662-624-8316)

Address issue by E-911 Coordinator (662-624-3026)

Elevation Certificate, if located in a flood zone, all structures shall be 1 (one) foot above base flood elevation. This determined by the Flood Hazard Maps issued by F.E.M.A.

Elevation Certification can be obtained from a register land surveyor, architect or engineer.

Contract Estimate from Start to Finish.

Plans and Deeds may be required on some projects.

How much does the permit cost?
Generally $2.00 per $1000.00 plus $10.00


How long will it take to get a permit?

If you have everything you need, about 15 minutes +/- .
