The Administrative Head of the Coahoma County Road Department is Road Manager, William Kinard Jr.  He was appointed by the Board of Supervisors and is educated and experienced in the construction and maintenance of county roads and bridges.    He holds this professional administrative position and is responsible for planning and directing the activities of the Coahoma County Road Department.

The Coahoma County Road Department oversees the construction and maintenance of rural roads and bridges throughout rural Coahoma County, Mississippi.   The crew works in hot, cold and inclement weather.  A crew is always on call for inclement weather and disasters.

Coahoma County’s Automotive Shop is housed within the Road Department.  Lester Myles is the Shop Foremen and a licensed mechanic as is its employees.  The shop is available to maintain and repair county vehicles which keeps business in the county and saves the county money.

The Coahoma County Building and Zoning Engineer is also housed within the Road Department.  Jesse Ivy is the County’s Building and Zoning Engineer.  All county building permits and permits to install culverts are handled in this office.

The Coahoma County Road Department does an extensive cleanup twice a year, once in the spring and once in the fall.  The dates are always advertised in advance. It also has a hazardous waste pickup schedule once or twice a year.  Those dates are also advertised.

The Coahoma County Road Department Manager is also the Coahoma County’s Administrator for the Department of Environment Quality handling and citing illegal dumping.  To report any illegal dumping, contact William Kinard Jr. directly at 662-902-2744.

Road Departments in Mississippi were established as a result of House Bill No. 4, which required the Board of Supervisors to operate a county wide system of road administration.  This bill became effective October 1989.   The department operates under policies which have been adopted by the Board and by statutory authority in accordance with Section 65-17-1 of the Mississippi Code.
